DoD/DIB Outreach

One of the main three objectives of the PC4A project is to increase interest in employment with the US Department of Defense and the Defense Industrial Base.  To help us reach this objectives, we're engaging in activities that will develop or strengthen relationships with local DoD and DIB agencies.  Below are some of our efforts in this area.

November 16, 2023 - IUP Main Campus

Event Overview: On November 16, 2023, IUP hosted senior personnel from the Department of Defense’s Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Business Systems Center. Kevin Davis, Hal Gobin, Kathleen Lancaster, Ryane Nave, and Gregory Wilson met with IUP administration, faculty, staff, and students to learn more about the DoD-funded PC4A Project and explore ways of collaboration between PC4A and NAVSUP. NAVSUP team also met with current DoD Cyber Scholarship recipients (CySP), and offered a presentation to potential candidates for the upcoming CySP application cycle. This meeting is the second time that NAVSUP representatives have visited IUP in an effort to identify additional collaboration opportunities. Expected guests include Kevin Davis, Retired Lt. Col. 16th Annual Cybersecurity Day at IUP

October 31, 2023 - IUP Main Campus

Event Overview:  Cybersecurity Day at IUP is a daylong event that features nationally recognized security experts as well as speakers from law enforcement, government, the security industry, and academia. Cybersecurity Day is open to the public, community colleges, and neighboring universities. This year, PC4A sponsored the event, in partnership with the IUP Institute of Cybersecurity and IT Support, and many representatives from the US Department of Defense participated in the event. Bsides Flood City Cybersecurity Event

October 26, 2023 - Penn Highlands Community College

Event Overview: PC4A sponsored the Bsides Flood City Cybersecurity Event, a large community event for private organizations, DoD/DIB Contractors, and educational institutions and their students to join together to share ideas and insights and to develop relationships. PC4A staff attended the event and operated a booth to share information about the PC4A project in an attempt to develop or cultivate strong relationships with local DoD/DIB agencies and contractors.  For more information, please see the news release or visit the Bsides Flood City web page.

Tobyhanna Army Depot Internship Program

The PC4A team at Northampton Community College and representatives from Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD) have spent months collaborating to develop an internship program for NCC students.  The established of the program will allow students to gain real-world hands-on experience that will result in better prepared workforce.  Students will also have the chance to "earn while they learn" as the internship program is a paid opportunity with funding provided by the PC4A project from DoD STEM.  TYAD will begin accepting student interns in the Fall 2023 semester, and will kick-off with an information session on September 11, 2023.  Interested students can apply by sending their resume to jwhitmire@northampton.edu.  Check back for updates on the success of the program.

NAVSUP Spring 2023 Visit to IUP

Dr. Waleed Farag, PC4A PI and senior members of IUP administration met with representatives from NAVSUP for an informational visit on April 11, 2023.  During the visit, NAVSUP personnel were given a detailed look at the IUP Institute for Cybersecurity, available cybersecurity and computer science programs, current research projects, scholarship opportunities, and an overview of the PC4A project. NAVSUP guests also presented a talk to students and faculty about the opportunities available and NAVSUP and other DoD agencies. Plans are in place to continue this collaboration between IUP and NAVSUP, and include PC4A partners in the future. 15th Annual Cybersecurity Day at IUP

Each year, the Institute for Cybersecurity, in collaboration with IT Support, hosts Cyber Security Day. This daylong event features nationally recognized security experts as well as speakers from law enforcement, government, the security industry, and academia.  Bryant Wysocki, associate director Information Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory,  presented a talk titled "Information Warfare" at the 2022 CS Day. This talk introduced operations concepts related to information assurance and the four pillars of information warfare. PC4A Partner WCCC faculty and students were in attendance at CS Day and had an opportunity to learn vital information from all presenters.
